Editorial policy
Southern Journal aims to make regional subjects understandable without making them neater than they are. We value accurate detail, visible distinctions and corrections that improve the record.
Accuracy and context
We check factual claims against appropriate sources and make clear when a statement describes one place, period or tradition rather than the entire region. When evidence is incomplete or accounts differ, the wording should reflect that uncertainty instead of smoothing it away.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made for readers, not to satisfy a partner or promote a product. A collaboration does not buy favourable coverage, and relevant relationships are disclosed with the material they affect.
Corrections
If you spot a factual error or a missing distinction, contact us with the article title and the point at issue. We review correction requests and update material when warranted, making substantive changes clear to readers.
Partner material and illustrations
Sponsored or partner material is identified clearly where it appears and kept distinct from independent editorial coverage. Some illustrations may be generated with artificial intelligence; where that applies, the illustration is labelled, and it is not offered as documentary evidence.
A region is never just its reputation.
Southern Journal looks at what people make, keep and change, without mistaking a familiar image for the whole story.
